Summit Engineering, Inc. is seeking an experienced Project Manager to join our dynamic team. This role manages projects from the proposal phase through completion, serving as the firm’s direct contact with clients while leading internal project organization, scheduling, and budgeting. The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise with leadership, client service, and business development skills, and is capable of generating new work for the firm. We are hiring at the Project Manager or Senior Project Manager level, depending on experience.

Location: Onsite (Santa Rosa, CA), or Remote (San Luis Obispo, CA, Salt Lake City, UT)

Salary Range: $130,000 to $180,000 annually (range includes PM – Sr. PM level)

Duties and Responsibilities:

Project Management & Client Service (All Levels)
• Prepare project proposals, scopes, and fee estimates
• Serve as the firm’s direct contact with the client, keeping them informed of progress, problems, and scope changes
• Establish direction of work and hold staff accountable for schedule and budget
• Meet project budget and schedule objectives and seek approval for additional services before work begins
• Prepare project specifications, including conditions of contract and General Conditions
• Perform and check work performed by other staff
• Coordinate in-house and external consultant design teams
• Manage several projects at one time
• Perform operational tasks such as invoicing, backlog tracking, and contract management
• Provide input on project staffing, staff performance reviews, and training needs
• Mentor and train staff in Summit systems and engineering design principles
• Develop new business and generate new work for the firm

Additional Responsibilities (Senior Project Manager)
• Prepare proposals for multi-disciplinary projects, including review of sub-consultant proposals and contracts
• Execute larger, complex projects involving multiple Summit disciplines and external sub-consultants
• Serve as Project Manager and overall design team lead when other consultants are retained directly by the client
• Identify and communicate key issues across disciplines, including design, coordination, scheduling, budget, permitting, and construction assistance
• Manage information flow between disciplines and the external project team
• Identify and communicate project risks and liability issues
• Develop key client and industry partner relationships to win new work
• Pursue business development in new markets and geographic locations

Qualifications/Skills:
• Bachelor of Science degree in a relevant engineering or other professional discipline
• Experience by level:
o Project Manager: minimum of 5 years of experience in a related field
o Senior Project Manager: minimum of 5 years of project management experience in a related field
• California Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent demonstrated capabilities and experience
• Technical expertise in at least one area where Summit performs a significant amount of work
• Understanding of design issues across the other disciplines involved in managed projects
• Knowledge of agency submittal requirements and permitting processes
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Bluebeam, or Revit, and knowledge of drafting standards
• Proficiency with spreadsheets, word processing, and engineering software
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with proven client relationship skills

Summit Engineering, Inc. is seeking a highly motivated Water Wastewater Project Engineer or Geologist with Hydrogeology experience to join our dynamic team. This role is focused on groundwater supply, water availability, and water adequacy evaluations for water supply systems and infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate will have experience evaluating whether existing or proposed groundwater sources can reliably meet current and future water demands, including review of well records, aquifer testing, pumping data, modeling, seasonal groundwater trends, water quality and applicable County or regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate is self-directed, technically strong and capable of managing complex hydrogeologic and engineering tasks while contributing to client relationships and business development.

Salary Range: $95,000 to $160,000 annually (range includes PE I – Sr. PE level)

Duties and Responsibilities:

Hydrogeology & Water Resources Experience

• Plan, facilitate and execute groundwater investigations, including desktop studies, aquifer testing data interpretation
• Design, oversee and analyze aquifer tests (pumping, step-drawdown, slug tests) to estimate aquifer parameters
• Evaluate site geology and regional geologic setting to understand how subsurface conditions may influence groundwater occurrence, aquifer behavior, recharge potential, storage, flow direction, water quality, well performance, and project feasibility
• Prepare and support groundwater source adequacy, water availability, and well capacity evaluations for development projects
• Review and interpret well completion reports, driller’s logs, geologic maps, boring logs, pump test data, static and pumping water levels, well production records, and available local groundwater data
• Develop or review water demand estimates and compare existing/proposed demands to available water supply data
• Plan, oversee, and interpret aquifer and well performance testing, including pumping tests, step-drawdown tests, slug tests, and water level monitoring
• Evaluate seasonal reliability, dry-year performance, well interference potential, and limitations of existing or proposed groundwater sources
• Analyze hydrogeologic data using appropriate tools, including conceptual hydrogeologic models and, where applicable, numerical groundwater modeling
• Prepare technical memoranda, water availability evaluations, and client and agency-facing summaries that clearly communicate assumptions, limitations, risks, and recommended next steps
• Coordinate with regulatory agencies, well drillers, pump contractors, laboratories, and design teams as needed
• Analyze hydrogeologic data using appropriate tools
• Collect groundwater quality samples, coordinate lab analysis and interpret geochemical data
• Support conceptual and numerical groundwater modeling

Engineering & Project Delivery

• Develop fee and time estimates for proposal preparation
• Communicate project status and updates to Project Managers
• Identify scope changes and alert Project Managers accordingly
• Prepare engineering analysis, calculations, and designs for assigned project components
• Produce construction documents with minimal oversight
• Manage task assignments to meet project budget and timelines
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance
• Stay current with industry codes and standards
• Respond to RFIs, review submittals and perform site visits
• Collaborate with clients and consultants for data collection and coordination
• Act as a technical lead on multi-disciplinary tasks as needed

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Hydrogeology, Geology, Civil/Environmental Engineering or related field
• Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in the field of hydrogeology, groundwater resources, or environmental consulting
• California Professional Engineer (PE) license or Professional Geologist (PG) preferred or in the process of obtaining
• Familiarity with multiple hydrogeologic settings (unconsolidated, consolidated and bedrock aquifers)
• Experience with groundwater modeling software (e.g. MODFLOW, SWMM or similar tools)
• Proficiency in engineering and design software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Bluebeam
• Strong communication, organization, time management and problem-solving skills with the ability to support multiple projects
• Understanding of applicable codes, permitting processes, and engineering design principles

As a Water Wastewater Staff Engineer at Summit, you will be responsible for engineering and design tasks while working on a project team. The Staff Engineer solves engineering problems and prepares engineering documents. The Staff Engineer is responsible for planning and conducting work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application, and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria. This role prepares or modifies drawings, specifications, calculations, and other engineering work in compliance with applicable codes and accepted engineering practices of Summit Engineering.

Salary Range: $80,000 to $95,000 annually (range includes SE I – II level)

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Performs limited engineering calculations and design using technical skills and engineering judgment to transform concept designs into Construction Documents.
• At the direction of other engineers, prepares plans and engineering documents using AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Revit or other software.
• Reviews sketches and/or detailed layout information from others for incorporation into the Construction Drawings and Technical Specifications.
• Performs engineering analysis using hand calculations; backchecks work with computer software to become familiar with software capabilities.
• Prepares engineering reports and other documentation. Communicates clearly with the internal project team, as well as clients, contractors, and outside consultants as necessary.
• Provides input to project team regarding project status on a regular basis.
• Takes responsibility for accuracy and completion of assigned tasks. Back checks work, communicates questions, and resolves discrepancies.
• Works on multiple tasks concurrently. Monitors progress and communicates status to Project Manager or supervisor.
• Utilized Summit technical standards for the creation of work products.
• Attends offsite project meetings and construction site visits.
• Actively participates in learning and development opportunities and engages in training related to the position.
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications/Skills:

• Bachelor of Science degree in relevant engineering discipline with appropriate coursework, or equivalent education and experience.
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification (or in the process of obtaining).
• Exhibits strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrates knowledge of, and is capable of producing drawings in, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Civil 3D, or Revit.
• Proficient with the use of computers including spreadsheets, word processing, and engineering software and ability to prepare electronic design calculation documents.
• Demonstrates a working knowledge of, and is capable of producing drawings in, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Civil 3D, or Revit.
• Ability to problem solve, complete assigned tasks efficiently, and meet project deadlines.
• Understands applicable code requirements and engineering concepts. Able to perform engineering design and detailing for projects of limited complexity.
